Irene Baldriga

Irene Baldriga is art historian, professor of Museology, Politics of museums and Museum Education at Sapienza Università di Roma (Italy). She has received her Ph.D. at Sapienza with a thesis on scientific collecting in the context of the Lincean Academy (1603-1630), a field of research that she keeps studying also in a global perspective and with particular attention to the connection between visual cultural and the perception of truth.
She is an associated member of the research group HISTARA (EPHE) and she is an active fellow of  the Groupe de Recherche sur l’Education et les Musées (University of Quebec at Montreal). She is a member of the scientific boards of the Journals Galilaeana. Studies in Renaissance and Early Modern Science and Storia dell’arte.

Currently, her main research topic concerns public memory, heritage and citizenship, with a perspective focused on participatory democracy. She is also involved, at a European level, in projects related to the decolonization of museums and the resematisation of monuments related to “difficult heritage”. She participates in several international projects concerning contemporary museology and museum education.

She is a member of the scientific boards of the Italian National PhD school in Peace Studies and of the PhD school in Art History at Sapienza Università di Roma.
Among her most recent publications: Diritto alla bellezza. Educazione al patrimonio artistico, sostenibilità e cittadinanza (Le Monnier, 2017); Estetica della cittadinanza. Per una nuova educazione civica (Le Monnier, 2020). She has also co-edited the volumes Dialoghi sul confine. Patrimonio culturale e costruzione di comunità (Carocci, 2024) e L’officina del visibile. Musei, ricerche, strumenti e prospettive (Edifir, 2024).
